The Mystery of Lake Titicaca
LAKE TITICACA
UROS + TAQUILE ISLAND
Peru
⋱☽☽☾⬫⋱⋰
By the locals, it is known as the Center of the Cosmos, where civilization was created.
This high altitude lake captured the imagination of famous explorers such as
Jacques Cousteau.
If it captures Cousteau’s imagination, expect it to capture yours.

From the sky, the lake is the shape of a puma, in which it got its name. ‘Titi’ translates “Puma” and ‘Caca’ translates to “Mount” in Quechua. So Mount Puma. Interestingly when you turn the map upside down the lake resembles a puma hunting a rabbit. How did the ancients know this? Don’t know, Lake Titicaca is one of those places that is still shrouded in mystery.

What I loved most about Lake Titicaca is its intriguing culture. Both the Uros and Taquile Islands are places that completely knock you out of your western world bubble, and opens your eyes on how other people think, live, work, and build community.
